Our story
Every house has its own history. And the history of this authentic cretan house is full of stories and memories spread across generations by our great-grandmothers and great-grandfathers.
The meaning of Antama
αντάμα < ἐν τῷ ἅμα = μαζί, together
"Antama" – a word that echoes through the generations in the Cretan dialect, meaning "together." It perfectly encapsulates the spirit of this historic home, nestled in the heart of the charming Melidoni village. Here, the past and present meet, and the warmth of Cretan village life is felt in every corner.

A rich history
Life in early 1800s Melidoni.
Step back to the early 1800s, when life in Crete moved at a slower, more meaningful pace. This home was the heart of family gatherings, filled with laughter, traditional Cretan cuisine, and the aroma of olive oil and wine. It was here that our great-grandparents gathered with neighbors to share stories and celebrate life — the true essence of Cretan village life.

The fabrica
The heart of the house.
The "fabrica," a bustling workshop in the courtyard, hummed with activity as they produced raki, the fiery spirit of Crete, along with wine and olive oil, the lifeblood of the island. The cool waters of the well quenched their thirst, and long evenings were spent around the table, sharing stories, dreams, and the warmth of human connection.
These gatherings, these moments of "Antama," wove the rich tapestry of this house's history. It became a sanctuary for the soul, a place where memories were made and bonds were strengthened.
